Erik was delighted to join the Council of PETbc because he passionately believes in the importance of socialising and training puppies and the education of dog owners. He says, ‘If owners can be helped to understand their responsibilities before they buy a puppy, many of the problems surrounding dog ownership would be alleviated.’
Erik was born in Cape Town and completed a Bachelor of Science in Zoology and Botany before going on to qualify as a veterinarian.
After initially working in South Africa at the Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals, he travelled through Africa and Europe before signing on as a vet here in the U.K. and currently works as a veterinarian in small animal practice.
He is also the duty veterinarian at various GCCF cat shows and at several Kennel Club championship dog shows, the senior vet at Discover Dogs and a member of the Veterinary team at Crufts
Erik has owned and bred Border Terriers and has been a committee member of the Southern Border Terrier Club for many years. He currently owns a dog, a cat – and a tortoise!
